Just 5 weeks of brain training may protect against dementia for 20 years

Scientists have found that a short brain training program can help older people protect themselves from dementia for many years. This training, called speed of processing training, helps people quickly see and understand things on a computer screen. People who did this training for five to six weeks, and then had some extra "booster" sessions later, were less likely to develop dementia, even Alzheimer's disease. This study followed people for up to 20 years. The results showed that the speed training group had a lower incidence of dementia compared to people who didn't have any training. This suggests that this simple training can be a useful intervention to help keep our brains healthy as we get older. The study was a randomized trial, meaning people were chosen randomly for different groups, making the results more reliable.
